Arrival & Check-In
Check-in on July 17 will be from 8:00-9:30 am at Columbus State University's Courtyard I North - Residence Halls. You will need to bring a pillow, blanket and sheets (twin extra-long). Don't forget your toothbrush and those other things that make it feel like home.
Leadership Workshops
These first day workshops will run concurrently, providing smaller work groups and a mix of institutional types. Each session has been designed to assist your personal growth, while incorporating these skills into your role as a campus leader
Opening Remarks from the Vice Chancellor & BOR Orientation
You will enjoy this opening session with Vice Chancellor Joyce Jones and Executive Vice Chancellor Houston Davis, as they introduce you to how the Board of Regents and University System of Georgia operates and why that is important.
Lunch & Keynote Address
Columbus State's President, Dr. Timothy Mescon will entertain, challenge, and engage you with an interactive presentation of Shift Happens.
StrengthsQuest
Developing as a leader might be one of the most significant and important opportunities you will have as a student. Each of your talents can be used to lead others if you intentionally develop them.
Prior to coming to the retreat, you will take the Clifton StrengthsFinder on-line assessment at StrengthsQuest.com. Soon you will receive log-in information with instructions. At the retreat, a StrengthsQuest trainer will walk you through your personal results.
Dinner with Chancellor Huckaby
Each year Chancellor Hank Huckaby hosts a dinner at the Summer Retreat for the purpose of getting to know each of you. This engaging dinner will be held in Columbus State University's Coca-Cola Space Science Center.
After dinner, you will have the opportunity to explory the Center with the teaching faculty as your guide. There will be movies playing in the Omnisphere Theater, viewing of distant planets inside the MeadWestvaco Observatory, or you can test your skills in the fighter jets and space shuttle flight simulators.

Jim Blanchard Leadership Breakfast
Friday morning you will start your day at the Jim Blanchard Leadership Breakfast with several of the most influential movers and shakers in the region. Congressman Sanford Bishop will be the guest speaker for the morning. After breakfast, SAC will have a private Q&A session with Congress Bishop and President Mescon on the topic of leadership. The moring is not over yet! Working with The Leadership Institute’s team of experts in Strategic Planning, Leadership Development and Executive Coaching, SAC members will learn how to enhance communication, build trust, foster teamwork, develop leadership, and inspire ideas that will transfer into actions.
